Due to its crystal structure, silicon nitride has a number of very important chemical and physical properties. It has high corrosion resistance, does not react with hydrochloric, sulfuric and nitric acids even at high temperatures. Does not interact with melts of steel, cast iron, non-ferrous and ferrous metals. Silicon nitride is chemically stable when exposed to hot chlorine (up to 900 ℃), hydrogen sulfide (up to 1000 ℃), hydrogen (up to 1200 ℃) and other gases. It remains stable at temperatures up to 1600 ℃, above which it begins to decompose.
Silicon nitride is relatively light, has a density of 3.21 g / cm3, but is very hard, resistant to impacts and high loads. It has low thermal and electrical conductivity.
